Dr. Nitya Nand Gosvami completed his B. Tech. with honours, in Metallurgical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology - Banaras Hindu University (IIT-BHU), in India in 2003 and received his PhD from National University of Singapore in 2008. He joined the Leibniz Institute for New Materials in Germany as a Postdoctoral Scientist in March 2008 and was later awarded Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. During April-March, 2008, he was a visiting scientist at Department of Physics at McGill University in Canada. In October 2010, he joined University College London in United Kingdom as a Research Associate and worked in collaboration with London Center for Nanotechnology. In september 2012, he moved on to work at University of Pennsylvania in the United States as a Research Project Manager. He joined the Department of Applied Mechanics at IIT Delhi in February 2016 and recently moved to the newly established Department of Materials Science and Engineering at IIT Delhi where he is working as an Assistant Professor since January 2018. Dr. Gosvami's research is focused upon understanding nanoscale mechanical and tribological behavior of engineering materials where he is investigating fundamental mechanisms of friction, wear and deformation of materials and processes occurring at the liquid-solid interfaces, relevant for understanding of the functionality of industrial lubricants and additives, corrosion in glasses, and tribological behaviour of lightweight alloys for structural applications.

Research Interests:

Fundamental Mechanisms of Friction and Wear of Materials, Nanotribology of Engineering Materials and Industrial Lubricant Additives, Nanoscale in Situ Methods in Tribology, Surface Science & Engineering, Failure Analysis of Materials, Nanoscale Aspects of Corrosion of Materials, Development of Novel Scanning Probe Microscopy Techniques, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology.
