Why MSE

Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) combines engineering, physics and chemistry principles to design new materials, investigate how materials perform and why they sometimes fail. Materials scientists work with diverse types of materials (e.g., metals, polymers, ceramics, liquid crystals, composites) for a broad range of applications (e.g., energy, construction, electronics,  nanotechnology) employing modern processing and discovery principles (e.g., casting, additive manufacturing, coating, evaporation, plasma and radiation processing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning).

Studying at MSE

Materials Science and Engineering, being a very wide gamut of different types of materials along with huge application domain, poses challenges in designing a programme such that it will cater to recent advances and future developments within various areas. The academic programmes in DMSE aim to groom students for the sectors that require such expertise in the development of our country

About MSE

To provide frontier education in Materials Science and Engineering at the postgraduate level to

  • Achieve excellence in education and research to meet the growing needs of the society
  • Expose the students broadly to research intensive curriculum for skill enhancement to suit the global market.
  • Provide an environment conducive to innovation, creativity, implementation of new ideas and team spirit so as to foster young and fresh talents.
  • Promote high standards of professional ethics.
